Materials Needed:

    •    1 lb soy wax flakes

    •    1 cotton wick

    •    1 glass jar

    •    10 drops of essential oil (lavender or vanilla)

    •    Glue dots or wick stickers

    •    Heat-safe bowl and saucepan (for double boiling)

Steps:

    1.    Attach the wick to the center of your jar using a glue dot.

    2.    Melt the soy wax using a double boiler until fully liquid.

    3.    Remove from heat and let cool slightly (around 135°F).

    4.    Stir in essential oil.

    5.    Pour the melted wax into the jar, holding the wick upright.

    6.    Allow the candle to cool and harden completely (4-6 hours).

    7.    Trim the wick to ¼ inch before lighting.

Tips:

    •    Use a chopstick or pencil to keep the wick centered while pouring.

    •    For stronger scents, add more essential oil but not exceeding 6-10% of the wax weight.

    •    Wax: Soy, beeswax, or paraffin.

    •    Wicks: Cotton, wood, or pre-tabbed wicks.

    •    Containers: Jars, tins, or molds.

    •    Fragrance oils and dye.

    •    Thermometer and heat source.

Example Recommendation:

“For beginners, we recommend starting with soy wax as it’s easy to work with and eco-friendly. 

Problem 1: My candle tunnels and doesn’t burn evenly.

Solution: Ensure you let your candle burn long enough to reach a full melt pool (across the jar) during the first use.

Problem 2: My wick keeps falling over.

Solution: Secure your wick with a wick holder or chopstick until the wax hardens.
